Hi, I'm Alyssa!

I'm your local family/lifestyle photographer. I was born in Pittsburgh, PA and I've never left. I grew up in the suburbs (Robinson) with my crazy, loud, Italian family. I've always been passionate about creating, capturing, editing, and giving. My journey with photography began when I learned how to take photos on a SLR and a Pentax film camera during my adolescent years. My paychecks from my first job went to my cameras and supplies. I opted in for Photography as one of my electives mid high school, and quickly became obsessed with Photoshop and design. I would randomly snap family memories, mostly including our beloved/late dog, Tippy.

Surprisingly, I never envisioned photography as my career once high school ended. I pursued an undergraduate and graduate degree in Psychology, while living close to home. I have been working in the field of mental/behavioral health for almost a decade! I met the love of my life, Colin, during the most exploratory years of my life. The beautiful family we created together, fur babies included, are the reason Grow Through It Photography is here today! I had the BIGGEST heart tug when I was pregnant with our son, Colin Jr, to begin a photography business. My husband encouraged me to go for it, and I didn't think twice about it before I was telling my friends and asking to use them as models to build my portfolio!
